VCU fearless in NCAA 1st round win over Wichita State, 62-59

Bradford Burgess nailed a three pointer with 1:33 left and Darius Theus bounced in a floater in the final moments to give Virginia Commonwealth a 62-59 first round win over Wichita State  in the NCAA Tournament.

Burgess’ big shot came in a sequence where each team matched back-to-back three pointers, with VCU scoring last to take a 1 point lead.  Theus then bounced in his runner in the lane to put the Rams up by three.  The final attempt to tie by Garrett Stutz bounced off the rim harmlessly as time expired.

Burgess led all scorers with 16 points, along with his 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Theus, Troy Daniels and Rob Brandenberg contributed 10, 10 and 9 points respectively. Joe Ragland had 15 points for the Shockers, wth Toure’ Murry and Carl Hall each with 10.
