No he hasn't, but he's a Junior. Upperclassmen who have proven their worth in the past get the benefit of the doubt and get handed the ball on Friday nights.

    At times?

NU is still ranked last in hitting and I know they don't put all of their pressure on our Friday starter.

Well you've also played the 227th ranked schedule. Meanwhile, scouts have been attending some of our road games (particularly the California road trip), and one said that Batts would be a Friday starter in the SEC. So having heard things like that, watched him all year, and seen him improve off his CAA Pitcher of the Year award last year, it's hard for me to imagine him not taking the honor this year. But we'll see.

First, he pitches this afternoon up in Boston against your Huskies; his last chance to solidify the honor.

Scenarios this weekend (assumes no game cancellations):

W&M (14-3) clinches the top seed with 1 win @ C of C (13-5). C of C needs a sweep to take the top spot.

Northeastern (8-10) and JMU (7-10) are each 1 win apiece from claiming tournament spots. If either team gets swept, Hofstra (7-11) is in. NU hosts UNCW and JMU hits the road against Delaware. Hofstra has a non-conference series against Massachusetts-Lowell.

UNCW (8-8) can finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th. Delaware (8-9) can finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th. Both have clinched tournament spots regardless of what happens this weekend.

Towson (4-13) does not get to play spoiler as their schedule is done; season over.

No one is saying Batts is not good. I would not argue if he is selected. Just pointing out he is not the obvious choice this season. Severel other pitchers who have more wins, better era and better opposing batting Ave. I just do not look at everything through maroon colored glasses and recognize there may be 3 or 4 deserving candidates. You could make a good argument for any of them

JMU needs to win tomorrow against Delaware or they're out and Hofstra is in. Northeastern can clinch a spot with 1 win or a JMU loss.

NU stays alive by beating JMU 3-1, behind Nick Berger's CG 4-hitter.

C of C has the best staff I've seen in a while. And, that didn't seem the case in the past, but now they are unreal. They can get out of a Regional the way it appears if they win tomorrow. They should get in anyway. Ober is the best pitcher in the CAA hands down and is one of the top pitchers in the nation. He will go high as a junior if he doesn't get hurt. C of C has problems scoring runs against top guns, as anybody does, but they have a tremendous staff.

Beautiful thing is all 5 of our starting pitchers are back next year. 4 of them have eras under 3 and the 5th under 4. Also our best reliever era wise is back. The biggest question mark again will be our hitting. Sadly our hitting makes Ave and medicore pitchers look good. Would love to have our pitching staff with the W&M hitting.

Well, the old baseball axiom will be in play today about good pitching beats good hitting.
