Hofstra beat Bryant 10-6 and was eliminated with a 7-0 loss to Texas A&M.
There were several reasons for us losing. I will sit down another time and explain. And for 3r20 I know we scored less runs than our opponents. Captain Obvious signing off.
no great pitcher and poor defense this season are the reasons.
Those are the two main reasons but there are about 3 more underlying reasons which I should explain some time tomorrow.
Pitching was really it. They were good. They weren't top 16 team in the country good. And that is the difference.
Pitching #1 and defense #2. There are 3 other reasons, minor but they contributed to us not getting as far as we should have.
Regardless of the reasons for not getting as far as we should have, you can't be too disappointed with having an RPI in the low 30s and getting an at-large bid to the tournament in a rebuilding year, even though there were many ups and downs. Things should be even better next year now that Lashley and Pirone both have a year of HU softball under their belts. Plus Jessica Peslak will hopefully be developed enough to play so that'll add another pitcher to the group.
There are three local pitchers to look at . Cornell who pitches for Clarke. Shapiro who pitches for East Meadow. The other I believe pitches for Carey.
Other than the two obvious reasons, pitching and defense lets look at some other reasons. I dont not like to single out any player in particular but some things stand out. One is Becca Bigler. She was our cleanup hitter. she had a great avg and on base percentage. I think she was HBP 19 times this year. One glaring thing was her powwer numbers were down. Only 3HRs this year I believe. The fact that we were inconsistant on offense with a ton of runners on base. Becca was 0 for 10 in this tournament. Lets look at fielding but also that we had 3 people play second this year and two at third. Tori made a great play to end the C of C game in the CAA tourney but was late covering 1st against texas A&M. That opened up the first inning in the second game against the Aggies. Also the Norman regional overall had every pitcher hit hard. sometimes those things happen. Even the great Oklahoma team had Bryant score 4 runs against them and 8 by the Aggies. As Captain Obvious says you have to score more than your opponent to win and by any means necessary. We could have overcome the pitching and poor D with just a bit more timely hitting. the first Aggie game was winnable,
regardless, if there's one program at HU that can be cut a break it's HU Softball - no program has been better for longer, or been a better ambassador of the HU athletic program
congrats to the ladies for accomplishing post-season play in a clearly sub-par yr for HU - I'd like to see many other HU teams have 'bad' years that still consist of making the NCAA tourney!! : D : D : D
Amen to that. Polito my post wasnt meant to be negative but to point out other reasons why we didnt advance any further.
Is Coach Edwards retiring? I think that's him in Olivia Galati's instagram. http://instagram.com/p/oMQY8nAYUq/
Edit: Hofstra officially announces it. http://www.gohofstra.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209498136&DB_OEM_ID=22200

looks like it is on youtube too - i have trouble with videos on gohofstra sometimes.
The final RPI is 38.
Think that is high but respect given to the program. What did JMU wind up at . should be top 25.
Does anyone know if Larrissa will add another coach to her staff or if Adrienne Clarke becomes a full time asst?
I hope that AC is made a full time assisatant.
Hofstra has always had a full time assistant in addition to Larissa.
So now there is room for another full time asst. If AC is around she should get it if not I know that the JV coach at Bay Shore High School might be interested.
