Hofstra softball wins the season opener against Uconn, 7-3. Morgan Lashley pitched the whole game. Maggie Hawkins with a 2-run homer, and Caryn Bailey with a solo home run.

Morgan Lashley with the win but she wasnt sharp. She gave up 11 hits. Needs to hit her spots better and get ahead in the count. She is was she is , which is an innings eater. She will give us 150 plus innings taking the pressure off Hawkins, Pirone and Peslak. Hitting wise it took 5 innings plus for the hitters to put it together. This team is capable of putting up big innings and a lot of crooked numbers.

HUSID80 dont take too much out of the UConn victory. We beat them like 18-1 last year.

We played them twice last year, in the tournament we hosted. The first game was close, as we came away with the 6-5 victory, then the second game against them was an 18-0 victory.
Today's game was also the first time the team has played on real grass and dirt all season, so that had to be a factor in their performance as well. That's a big difference from the bubble and the PFC floor.

It's also a very big difference for the pitchers. Your ability to push, your landing, your drag, all things that can't be replicated by anything other than an actual diamond.

JMU went up against Sara Nevins while we went up against their #2 pitcher. JMU and Hofstra very close in talent with Hofstra with a offensive edge and JMU with an edge in pitching with Jaylen Ford.

Morgan Lashley was named the Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament, going 3-0. Maggie Hawkins, Rachel Senator, and Becca Bigler make the all tournament team. Jailyn Ford is the only player from JMU on the all tournament team.

After 5 games besides the 4-1 record we have a 1.000 fielding percentage (have not committed an error) and are 8-8 in stolen bases. Both our pitchers are pitch to contact. Pirone had 12 ground balls in her victory over USF.

The biggest thing with Pirone seems to be the walks. More BBs than Ks, and a 1.67 WHIP.
