On May 28, the New York Cosmos of the NASL (second highest soccer level in the country) will host amateur club Brooklyn Italians in the U.S. Open Cup Third Round. The game will be played at St. John's. Is Shuart Stadium unavailable that day? If the Cosmos win, they will host the Red Bulls (who won the Supporters' Shield which means they had the most regular season points in MLS in 2013) in the Fourth Round in June at Shuart Stadium with date and time to be determined. The Cosmos won the NASL Soccer Bowl last year, and the Red Bulls have Thierry Henry who won World Cup 1998 playing for France. This would be a rare opportunity to see soccer at that high a level on Long Island. There was a U.S. Open Cup game in South Huntington in 2010, when the Long Island Rough Riders beat the New York Pancyprian Freedoms, but both of those are amateur clubs. I considered going to that game but I chose to watch the Yankees at home instead. If the Italians, who won the U.S. Open Cup in 1991 when there were no professional clubs, beat the Cosmos, the Red Bulls will host the Italians in Harrison, NJ in the Fourth Round. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Lamar_Hunt_U.S._Open_Cup lists the clubs in the 2014 U.S. Open Cup.

It would cool to have Red Bulls play at Hofstra! The franchise played at Hofstra in 1997 against the Long Island Rough Riders.

The Cosmos beat the Brooklyn Italians 2-0, and will host the NY Red Bulls at Shuart Stadium on June 14th.

You posted that before I came here to post it. On June 14 the Yankees are playing at 10:05 P.M. so that will not conflict with the U.S. Open Cup game.

Edit: The soccer game will conflict with the Yankees because it won't start until 8:30 P.M.

Kickoff is listed at 8:15 pm, so you can catch a few extra pitches of the Yankee game.

But, conflict or not, it's an easy choice: one game in the middle of a 162-game regular season vs. New York soccer history being made between two NY pro soccer teams for the first time ever, on our own campus. Forget the Yankees, go to Hofstra.

I want to go to the game at Hofstra. Right now http://ev10.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncom...ntext=&pc=&caller=&appCode=&groupCode=F14&cgc is only allowing you to buy tickets to it combined with a July 12 NASL game.

This link is to get tickets just for the game against the Red Bulls. You can see seat availability, and pick the exact seat you want, unless you choose the general admission section. http://ev10.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncom...ontext=&pc=&caller=&appCode=&groupCode=SG&cgc

Where do you park for Shuart Stadium? Is there an entrance from Uniondale Avenue?

You can find parking at shuart stadium on Uniondale Ave just south of Hempstead Turnpike. I don't think they will charge you for parking

So I know nothing about soccer. Did the Red Bulls actually bring their whole team?

We paid $10 for parking, and my dad wasn't sure there would even be a parking spot after we paid. We entered the lot from Uniondale Avenue and were almost at California Avenue by the time we got a spot.

Several Red Bulls were missing for reasons out of the teams' control. Thierry Henry (who is internationally famous) and Jamison Olave don't play on turf (they didn't play in the Red Bulls' previous game where they won at New England for the first time in a while). Roy Miller and Tim Cahill are at the World Cup, where Cahill scored for Australia. Dax McCarty is injured. The Red Bulls chose not to use starting goalkeeper Luis Robles. Chris Duvall, the Red Bull who got ejected (although the game was 3-0 by then) doesn't play much. The Red Bulls are much worse than last year. They averaged 1.74 points per game last year and are averaging 1.20 so far this year where they may not make the playoffs.

Even with the players out, was it an upset or did people think the Cosmos would have a chance?
