Big news in the 'Burg is the discovery by W&M officials that the Griffin's head has been stolen from it's locked room
at W&M Hall. Nobody knows how long it's been gone but the door was propped open by a hanger.

A huge search is underway and W&M Police have offered a "no questions asked" deal for its return.

A new head would cost $2000 and take up to six weeks to make.

There is no second Griffin costume to use as a replacement.

Sherlock Holmes is reportedly on the case.

Well, it's too early for Halloween...although a great costume idea... and it's not like you can fence it (are their even fences IN Williamsburg) or go into a Pawn Shop and say "what'll you give me for this Mythical Creature's head?"... so, you may as well return it and tell 'em "Always check your locks."

I'm surprised there's only one costume -- seems like there might be days with two different Griffin-worthy events going on simultaneously.

(Or when one costume is at the cleaners or something).

As usual it is all about $$$s . It was proabably hard to get the money for one costume , two would have been too much to ask for.
How many times has there been back to back appearences by The Griffin ?

I understand that if the authorities do not find a kidnap victim within the first 24 hours after the abduction, the odds of ever finding the victim [such as a Griffin Head] are very remote.

These mascot costumes cost between 10k and 25k. It would be great to have a second outfit, but that's lots of money for W&M and many schools.

Actually, the second costume, once the design has been set, will generally cost between $4000 and $8,000. Still, as BT says, that's not a small amount of chicken.

There are 12 relatively new buildings on campus that if searched would probably result in finding the head.

Surely you don't stoop so low as to suggest a W&M Fraternity would kidnap the Griffin???

Jeffreson was not a Federalist; he belonged to the Democratic Republican party. The Griffin, however, may be a closet Federalist - wasn't the Griffin hidding in a closet before he was kidnapped?
