well this sucks
Wow I really thought he would stick around till his 1000th win.
i agree stu. this never even crossed my mind for this offseason.
I just hope and pray its not for health reasons. Bill thank you so much for giving us 25 years of joy watching your teams play. There will never be another coach like you.
Seems very sudden. I figured it would happen a few seasons from now, and that maybe when it happened that he would announce that the next season would be his last.
The team should still be in very good hands with Larissa though.
NNOOOO!!! WOW, def shocked, and like said above, hope it's not for anything other than he's ready - which if he is, God bless him and nothing but the best of wishes for him and his family - he will be missed to say the least : )
wow, a LEGEND - hate to see him go, guy has been one of the greatest HU people in history
I hope they honor him with a retirement dinner. Naming the stadium after him would be a nice tribute by Hofstra.
The school is definitely doing something. They want people to submit comments about him here: http://www.gohofstra.com/quest/Questionaire.dbml?QID=251123&DB_OEM_ID=22200
Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble getting on the Hofstra website.
Yeah, they had problems. They put up on twitter that they were working with Neulion to get it back up.
Wow... Unreal. He will be missed.
See Bill Edwards retires and the website goes down and just heard that hell froze over.
didnt kalafer coach volleyball for about the same time with about the same success? i dont think they named the volleyball court after her or i just missed it. i dont think you can do one without the other.
Kalafer in volleyball hall of fame but didnt have the success that Bill had. Dont get me wrong she should have but instead Hofstra took the money from David S Mack. Delaware had football stadium named after their football coach Tubby Raymond who had 300 wins. Ga State named their softball stadium after their 700 win coach Bob Heck. Bob did contribute 1 mil to the school so I guess they had to name it after him. Just waiting to see david s mack to contribute money and have every building and sports venue named after him on the north campus. I think he has his name on 5 buildings already.
Hard to complain that someone donates a lot of money. Be happy that someone is giving it, at least.
The biggest thing with Coach Edwards is that he got that stadium built. They had to knock down the old one to put up the Arena, but without his influence, that doesn't happen.
And it's Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium, so they didn't name the stadium itself after him.
Funny but never heard it referred to as Delaware stadium. I do remember Blue hen fans refer to it as Tubby Raymond Field. Still it is time for Hofstra to acknowledge and reward their coaches by naming some things after them
The formal press conference/announcement for Larissa Anderson is tomorrow morning.
I still feel like this is such weird timing for Edwards to announce this.
Better now than over the summer. Gives Larrisa a chance to mold her team and give her a running start recruiting players. Would like to see who she adds to her staff. Would like to see Susan Cassidy Lyke from Molloy College but I think she makes too much money at Molloy as softball head coach and their AD.
Tomorrow morning also is the graduation for the seniors that missed it because of them being away at the tournament (which is one of the best things Hofstra does, in my opinion).
And I don't think it's weird timing. Not something you might want to say at the beginning of the year. He wants the focus to be on the girls, not him. Maybe it was something he decided in the middle of the season. But he doesn't do anything without a reason behind it.
Thanks Coach Edwards - Great program you have left us with.
this is wild - guess it was only a matter of time, but really thought he'd go for 1000...
at any rate, he left an INCREDIBLE program - any thoughts or insight to potential successors??? This program should attract some TOP candidates all things considered...
Larissa Anderson is the successor. http://www.gohofstra.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=209499473&DB_OEM_ID=22200
It definitely would've been interesting to see who would've applied for the job had it not been an internal hire.
Welcome Coach Anderson - Good Luck!!!
Gotcha thx - naming so quick have to think circle of folks knew and Anderson prob Edwards pick - certainly seems to have earned the shot - but yes was curious to see the candidates that may have been out there...
Here's to Anderson continuing the tremendous legacy of SUPER success!!
Bill Edwards is on WRHU's The Locker Room tonight at 8 to discuss his career at Hofstra.
PoP what was covered in the Edwards interview.
I wish I knew. I wasn't home, so I wasn't able to listen to it. Maybe WRHU Sports will post the interview on their website, as I'd like to know his thoughts and reasoning about the season and the timing of his retirement.
