If Shaver does not give out his final two scholarships for the 2014 recruits, with three out of five awarded
at this point, he will have a very large six scholarships available for 2015...the two from 2014 plus those of graduated players Rusthoven, Britt, Gailliard and Heldring.
Hard to believe Tony won't bring in at least one more for the 2014 class...six for one class is very unusual.
Redshirt Schlotman and Whitman and we're talking about a transfer or two to even out the years. I'd like that strategy.
Actually 7 schollies, with Boatner graduating too.
I look for them to try for a 2014 PG & a big by spring. I think they hope to have Schlotman back by league play and plan to redshirt Whitman. Still sets up to be a large, and important, 2015 class. I suppose they could hold off and try to balance the classes through transfers, jucos, or the prep ranks. Any more than 1 seems very un-W&M like and I don't see it happening.
Big Tribe, I think that your scholarship math is a bit off. If we redshirt Whitman as we all believe, and if we do not sign any additional 2014 recruits, then next year's roster will have 4 freshman (including one redshirt freshman), 3 sophomores, 2 juniors, and 2 seniors, for a total of 11 scholarship players. Therefore I think that the most scholarships that we have to offer to 2015 recruits is 4.
Assuming that Whitman is redshirting and that we don't redshirt any of the three freshman coming in next year, we are already looking at a 2014 class of 4 players. Add a point guard that we don't redshirt and we are up to 5. I would think that if we were to add a big man to the 2014 class, we would almost certainly look to redshirt him next year. Having Whitman back up Sheldon next year will be no different than having Sheldon back up Rusthoven this year.
The downside of not filling your full complement of available scholarships each year is that practices are inevitably not as competitive/productive, especially with injuries that knock out available bodies. It, also, helps starters to be going up against someone with the ability to challenge for their starting job everyday. Fully appreciate the sacrifice that walk-ons bring to the table, but there's a difference. This is the first year in a while that we have had a full complement of scholarship players. This year Rusthoven, Sheldon, Heldring and Whitman can rotate pushing each other in practice. If it's just Sheldon and Whitman next year and one goes down......
"William and Mary was at the Warrior Dome tonight to check out 2015 G Josh Ruggles, and they will take a look at 2015 Nate Navigato tomorrow."
Ruggles, he of the 135 three pointers made in 5 minutes video (he missed eight).
Not sure about his complete game, but you really can't do better for a 3-point specialist. Undefended, he pretty much does not miss.
Springboarding off of his YouTube world record video, he competed in & won a Spanish Pro league 3 point shooting contest. Josh collected an amazing 39 out of a possible 48 points in the finals. Pretty amazing.
Probably not, but I wonder if this will have any implications on his amateurism. I'm sure he didn't pay out of his own pocket to fly to Spain. And, I'm sure the prize is more than a trophy for a pro competition.

Fits the W&M PG mold of steady but not flashy. Greatly improved as the season went on.
Has offers from Kennesaw St. & Sienna. Interest from GMU, Princeton, Radford., Boise St., Hofstra, & New Mexico.

Vantage hoops tweeted:
"2015 Kenny Williams of LC Bird and Boo Williams has received an offer from William and Mary"
Can't imagine we'd offer unless a legit connection/possibility, but this is a very high target...#5 prospect in the state, offers on the table from VATech, VCU, GMU, with UVA and Richmond in the picture, and I would imagine his stock will rise a lot this summer...
Would love to see both he and Ryan Pearson, both Richmonders, commit to this class, and that would be another big leap for this program's recruiting if it happens.....
Don't see many HS kids dropping 50 as a junior.....
VT offer may still stand, but there has been a regime change there. The new coach is probably very invested in his old Midwest recruiting, so, no telling where the coach's in-state interests lie.
Buzz would be very lucky to land Williams....Fully expect his stock to rise considerably this summer.
No doubt Buzz would love to get him. Recruiting is mainly about relationships with the coaches. Often, moreso, than the schools themelves. The courtship process with Tech, IMO, starts from scratch with a new staff. Thats why you will probably see many of Buzz's Marquette targets considering VT. Buzz is a heck of a recruiter though. Eventually, he should have his pick of in-state talent.
