So that's Costley, Morsell and Astroth, all wings. I guess Sheppard is not coming next season. We desperately need another 4 man who can shoot and a backup point/combo guard.

Hawkins is a very good get for you guys. Your 1st 2 committments are really not very special at all.

I have met Byron and he is a very nice kid.

I saw Hawkins play this summer and he is very good. The other 2 guys sound more like Guthrie or defensive stoppers/loose ball guys.

He fits the need for another quick/good ball handler/scoring guard.

Here is our second commit of the day:

Jordan McNeil 6'5 Shooting Guard from Mount St. Joseph

    http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jordan-mcneil

Was being looked at by USC, Auburn, Washington, UAB, COC, Toledo, Ohio, and more.

Looks like he is another steal because the big schools are starting to take a good look at him. Cant find a lot of information on him but playing on a good MSJ and Team Melo is the only thing i can find. Team loses leading scorer to Ohio State so we may see some increased scoring. Grabbing him early helped us a lot.

BTW Allen Costly is a good pick up from what I can see. He was on the Terps radar.

The transfer route, might be the way to get a big. It's real tough to get a quality big at this level. Even a marginal big will get a big time look, just based on numbers.

Let's see, Tommy Breaux, Denard Abraham, Braxton Dupree, Jerrelle Benimon, Bilal Dixon, Kelly Williamson, Kennell Jones (ok sort of bigs). All transfers and all had some success. Obviously Skerry got the best two in JB and Dixon. Not against it but I like staying with freshmen and grooming them. If a D1 transfer is available, I'm sure Skerry will look at one in the next month or two.

The bigger issue is that these guys usually have issues unless you get a guy who just needs more playing time like JB. I'll trust in Skerry that he finds another big and that Foster might eventually be the guy in the middle so we can move TJ to the 4. Guards are great but you need guys that can defend and do the dirty work.

A high major program is more likely to reach on a big, that's why a good number end up transferring down. Look at some of the stiffs the Terps have given scholarships to, just because they were tall. You can't teach height, is how the old saying goes.

Carter is visiting Towson this weekend...I honestly thought we would have received a verbal from him but have to respect a kid who is looking at all his options.

According to espn, Eddie Keith 6'4 sf from Florida committed to Towson. Florida hoops has him the 25th ranked player in the state. Delaware commit, 6'6 sf chivarsky Corbett is ranked 27th. Isn't this your 3rd or 4th wing player in this class?

    Re: 2013-14 Basketball Recruiting

We are losing a total of three players at the 2/3 position to graduation. I do agree we are adding a bunch more than we are losing:

    PG

    Byron Hawkins

    SG

    Allen Costley
    Jordan McNeil
    Mike Morsell

    SF

    AJ Astroth
    Eddie Keith

    Re: 2013-14 Basketball Recruiting

A.J. Astroth is our transfer from Vanderbilt (sitting out this year)

Allen Costley is a HS commit...

That makes 5 new wing players next year. We need a forward/center. Eddie Keith does look legit though. He had a ton of offers.

My mistake, I got them mixed up. I was hoping for a big too but I am pretty sure Skerry is aware and working on it. This guy Eddie is a good get, I actually met his family (very nice) at the exhibition and they seemed pleased with Towson. I just didn't have a name for him until now.

Keith is a 3* rivals and 2* scout for what that's worth. I saw that he was coming down to making his decision a few days ago. Just didn't think he would move up North.

    Allen Costley
    AJ Astroth
    Jordan McNeill
    Mike Morsell
    Eddie Keith

I'm not sure we've ever signed four freshmen wings and one transfer wing in the same class. And we still have John Davis and Four McGlynn, though I presume Davis will move to the 4. We are desperate for size but have no ships available though I guess somebody will go.

    2014-15
    PG Hairston, Byron Hawkins
SG McGlynn, Allen Costley, Jordan McNeill, Mike Morsell (in no particular order)
SF AJ Astroth, Marquis Marshall, Eddie Keith
    PF TJ Parker-Rivera, John Davis
C Walter Foster, Barrington Alston, Jamel Flash (might be graduating)

So that's 14, one above the limit. Assuming Flash graduates, somebody else would have to go in order to pick up a big man. Personally, I'm a little surprised at the glut of wings and I think we could have used another point guard. Replacing JB was going to be near-impossible. You just don't find recruits that are 6-8, 250 with that kind of skill set. Still need another big or two.

Yes. It looks like we will be a more guard oriented team in the near future. Can you win big at the CAA level with great guards and not great inside play?

You don't need great inside play, but you need to rebound and defend. It can't be a weakness.

Skerry seems to love to recruit the dual-threat type guys. The kind of guys you would label a small forward. If Benimon goes to the NBA he will probably be a small forward. Burwell reminds of a Wilson Chandler type of guy which is a small forward. Parker-Rivera has the body of a Small Forward. Damas is a Small Forward.

It seems like Astroth and Keith will also follow this trend.

Astroth and Keith are 6-6 and 6-4 so not real tall. Hopefully, they can score without Bennimon and Damas.

It's a little early to tell which players will score, which will defend. Remember, Four McGlynn is returning and Hawkins should allow Hairston to play some 2. Astroth can shoot it from deep. Costley is a defender that will get after you and McNeil can shoot it. I'm guessing Morsell, Keith and Costley can all defend at the wing. Not sure where that leaves Marshall. Davis I guess will be the backup 4 until they find somebody else.

One star.. Does he play 1 or 2? Seems pretty quick, agile and offensively capable.. Kinda would like to see some more size, but maybe he'd grow.. But as others have repeatedly said, we mostly need another big..

His highlight tape wows me. Kid can ball and it seems he can score and pass in bunches. If we land him I bet he will get the starting job. He is also starting to hear from schools such as UMD and South Carolina. I was right and Bryton Barr and I think it is time to get the hunch juices flowing again.
