Eight of Virginia’s Division I men’s basketball teams will compete in a holiday tournament in Richmond under a plan Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) is set to announce Wednesday, according to three people with direct knowledge of the event. The tournament, which will be called the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic, will be held in the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the hope that it will become an annual event. In December 2012, George Mason will play Richmond in the first game of the doubleheader; Virginia will play Old Dominion in the second game.
