UMass to upgrade football, play at Gillette – BostonHerald.com
The University of Massachusetts will make official today that its football program will upgrade to Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division 1-A) status and join the Mid-American Conference on a full-time basis beginning in 2013. The issue was first reported by Herald columnist Steve Buckley last Nov. 30.
UMass, which has been a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), will also announce it will play all of its home football games in 2012 and 2013 at spacious Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots [team stats]. It will play a partial FBS schedule beginning in 2012.

You know what's gonna be a barrel of fun? Getting seven schools to approve new additions (not new editions GOOGLE IT @metsox1). #CAAHoops
What would've sounded more absurd in '08? By '13 #Hofstra would be 4 years w/o football, or ODU & GSU would each be in I-A confs? #CAAHoops
