Dukes down the Blue Hose?, 65-56

Rayshawn Goins went 7 for 8 shooting and Denzel Bowles collected a double-double as James Madison defeated Presbyterian 65-56 in the CBE Classic subregional second round last night.

James Madison shot 54.2 percent (26 of 48), thanks in part to 34 points coming in the paint and 10 off fast breaks. The Blue Hose (1-4), who didn’t score once on a fast break, shot 39.2 percent (20 of 51) and went 9 for 24 from 3-point range (37.5 percent).

Georgia State wins over Utah Valley, 69-56

Eric Buckner scored 15 points and Brandon McGee and Marques Johnson added 12 points each as Georgia State won its second straight with a 69-56 victory over Utah Valley on Tuesday night. Buckner, a 6-foot-10 junior college transfer, also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Panthers (2-1). It’s the second year in a row that GSU has defeated the Wolverines (0-3).

The Dub loses in OT to North Carolina A&T

Bad shots and turnovers infested the UNC-Wilmington offense during the first half Tuesday night against North Carolina A&T. Distracted by an upcoming break, the Seahawks paid for their sluggish start with a painful 84-79 overtime loss to the Aggies at the Corbett Sports Center.

UNCW (2-3) rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit with a flurry of 3-pointers and strong drives from its guards, including Ahmad Grant who hit 7-of-7 from behind-the-arc and scored a career-high 30 points.
